Finalizou a licenciatura (BFA) em Performance/vídeo, pelo San Francisco Art Institute, California, em 1991. Em 1997 conclui o Mestrado (MFA) na Standford University, California. Tem ganhado vários prémios nos Estados Unidos: Chauncey McKeever Award, San Francisco Art Institute em 1991; WESTAF/NEA Regional Fellowship for Visual Artists em 1994; One Tree, Best Public Art Project of the Year, San Francisco Bay Guardian, em 1996; Stoli, San Francisco Arts Achievement Award Secession Gallery, Visual Art Residency Fellowship Award, Taiwan, em 1997; SECA Art Award, SFMOMA, San Francisco, em 1998; Biennial Award, Fundação The Louis Comfort Tiffany, New York, NY, em 1999; Eureka Fellowship, Fundação Fleishhacker, California, 2006.
